Humminguru Review.

The Humminguru arrived recently and I've had a chance to use it maybe two dozen times so for. I've never owned an ultrasonic so not sure I can compare this to others.

However I'm pleased with what I got for under $400. It seems to work well, is small, is quiet and by my calculations it's cleaning fluid efficient using about 340 ml (1/3 cup) per record.

Being the tinkerer that I am I found making a trip to another room after each cycle to dump the incorporated waste fluid container a PIA. I removed the cover and discovered a small pump with output tubing run to the waste container. I drilled a small hole in the case side and substituted a piece of output tubing that I ran to the same container I collect the VPI waste fluid in. Much better solution for the waste fluid.

It has two lengths of clean and dry cycles. Drying is 5 or 10 minutes selected on a slide switch between the power button and wall wart connector. One pushes clean button once or twice to select long or short clean cycles, then start. After cleaning the pump runs about ten seconds to drain the tank then the drying starts. The design calls for using the waste fluid tank as the measuring tank to fill the basin with cleaning solution. The tank's design makes it less than ideal for doing this. I found using a measuring cup to pour the proper amount of cleaning solution into and then pouring it into the basin works well as the basin slot is narrow and filling the tank from a gallon jug is more difficult than into a measuring cup. I'm still using the VPI as a rinse/vac station so after the cleaning cycle I leave it in the dry cycle long enough to not drip on the way to the VPI and to not wet the VPI mat. I'm finding the complete process takes about the same amount of time as I was spending on a two wash one rinse process previously on the VPI. In the picture looking down into the basin you can see a 1.5" x 1/4" area on each end and opposite sides of the tank. Those are the air vents. In that same pic you can see two slots the LP edge fits into. These are replaceable rollers with the right one being motorized and providing the LP rotation. The bottom drain is also visible in this pic.

The units intended design is to have a clean, dry record at the end of it's cycle and not to incorporate a rinse step as I have.

So far, I'd say it's worth it's small cost.

I got an email today and the HumminGuru ultra sonic vinyl record cleaner is now available for preorder. $380 USD, September delivery. I’m seriously tempted to give it a try.

What do you all think?

That looks interesting. I've been eyeing a Kirmuss. I think I'll hold off to see how good this one is.

Has anyone participated in this now closed Kickstarter campaign? At $329 it looks like it was worth a gamble on.

At this price I wish I'd seen it soon enough to back. Looks like they will start taking pre-orders in just a few days, but no pre-order price that I saw.
