JVC RS-1 Projector For Sale

I am modifying the price on this post. If you are interested in the project, make me an offer. Steve
This is a serious home theater projector that initially retailed for over $5K when it first came out.  In many ways it still tops most new projectors under $1500 in terms of contrast ratio and picture / color quality. The lens shift (V & H) is also a very useful feature that is usually not found on projectors under $2K.  I'm asking for less than half that : $550.

For those not familiar w/ JVC's D-ILA technology, it's an LCOS panel : Liquid Crystal On Silicon.  In many ways it combines the best of LCD and DLP technologies, having the rich color and image depth of LCD, but also having the brightness and contrast ratios of DLP as a reflective technology without the use of mirrors and the dreaded "rainbow" effect.  It's primarily used by JVC projectors and Sony has a comparable tech called SXRD.  It's so well regarded that JVC D-LA and Sony XRD projectors consistently top the reviewers "best of" lists.

I have the original remote and manual and it's always been ceiling mounted in a dedicated HT room and well taken care of.

Conditionally I'd give it an 8/10 for the following two reasons :

1) There are some light scratches on the top left of the case.  Not sure how that happened, but it's a glossy black surface.  In a darkened room obviously there's not much to notice.

2) With the aftermarket bulbs I've used it needs to be run in "high altitude" mode - i.e. faster fan mode - otherwise it trips the thermal sensor.  No damage occurs and you can restart in 10 minutes.  Running it in "high altitude" mode causes no thermal sensor trip and the fan is obviously running faster - but even having had it mounted 3 feet above my head, neither I nor anyone else has ever been bothered by the fan sound.  It is still substantially lower than the usual business presentation class projectors.

It's possible that OEM bulbs would not create this condition.  But as used and aftermarket bulbs cost less than $100, and new OEM bulbs over $300, you can appreciate why I - and likely you - would happily live with the slightly higher fan noise.  Bulb life is 2000hrs.
