June 2019 Meeting - Vinyl Day 2019
Sunday, June 23, 2019, 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM
Northcliff Communities Clubhouse
1808 Shaker Falls Ln.
Lawrenceville, GA 30045
Registration is not Required
We'll play one track from every attendee until time runs out on the meeting!
Our June meeting will be held in the Northcliff Communities Clubhouse on Sunday, June 23 from 2 PM until 5 PM. It will feature vinyl playback system equipment provided by our VP - Industry Relations, Chuck Bruce. Equipment provided will include:
EAR 912 Line and Phono tube preamp (Esoteric Audio Research)
EAT "C" Sharp Turntable (European Audio Technology)
Phono cart - Grado "Epoch" MM
The equipment provided by Chuck is meant to be used in a very high quality system. We are looking for one volunteer to provide the use of a power amp and another volunteer to provide a set of full range speakers. The higher the quality of the system we put together the more interesting the meeting will be. In the event that volunteers do not come forward, we will use the club owned tube amp and the club designed and built two way speakers... a pretty high-end solution. But, one we are familiar with, having heard this equipment many times before. It would be way more fun to listen to some equipment that is new to us! So, let me know if you would like to volunteer.
We are also issuing an invitation to members of the Atlanta Vinyl Collectors Group on Facebook. Come join us for an afternoon of great vinyl and delicious refreshments. Bring a favorite recording and we'll play at least one track from that recording. It's a chance to possibly hear some music you are not familiar with and talk with other vinylphiles (except no talking while the music is playing!).
June 18 Update:
We have the two amplifiers volunteered for this meeting. Markus Engel will be bringing the Belcanto Design eVo2 Gen II. This is one of the very first of the digital amps, called class "T" by Bel Canto. These were not cheap in their day and are still very well thought of today. To read a review of this amp, Click Here
As a backup, if he can make the meeting, John Boehnke (Atwood) will bring the vaunted Red Dragon Audio S500 class D amp he won. We have heard this unit before and were quite surprised at how well it makes music. Click Here to read the review.
Both of these power amps can do single ended or balanced inputs. This will match well with the balanced outputs from the EAR 912
We will be using the club's amazingly good two way speakers for this meeting!
ALSO, we'll play a couple of tracks from Lyn Stanley's latest recording, the Direct-To-Disc "London With A Twist-Live At Bernie's". This recording has received WOW reviews from all who have heard it! AND, there may also be a surprise when we listen to this recording.
