Glen Campbell

Duets: Ghosts On The Canvas Sessions

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zELVay2OvrM&list=PLDhajrZgo0TLSYi7N7f30OeN57DIFJWH3

I'll label this as for Glen Campbell Fans (Primarily)

Disclosure, I'm a solid GC fan probably due to his last albums more than the earlier catalogue content. The original version of the Ghost album is one of my all time favs - reminding me also of Johnny Cash's last works. So, why the qualified introduction? To my mind this album comes close to something that should not have been made but none-the-less is good enough to enjoy.

For me the payoff isn't the second voice in the duet (Sting, Brian Wilson and more) but rather the slightly different vocal from Glen himself. The material is so good that another pass at it is something I drink in. Where the original release was haunting, these vocals are a little more relaxed and still wonderfully powerful.

If I had to pick a standout song on the album it would be the duet with Elton John, I'm Not Going Too Miss You, which closes the album. The vocals are nearly perfect bookends. So, start at the end and enjoy the listen.

Dylan LeBlanc

From NODEPRESSION review...

"On his fifth album, Coyote, Dylan LeBlanc continues to mine and integrate rock, blues, folk, and country templates. His voice, per usual, is compelling. His lyrics are evocative, inspired by Southern lit as much as the tones and textures of gothic Americana. The result is an oftentimes riveting set, the listener transported to a smoky realm where a sure thing is illusion and safety is near impossible to come by."

October 2023 - Scott's Picks

Nathan Graham - "Somebody Else"

“When people hear ‘singer-songwriter,’ they typically think of somebody who is white, middle-aged, male,” Graham says. But greats like Smokey Robinson, Luther Vandross, Lauryn Hill and even J. Cole deserve to be reframed as a part of the genre just as much as someone like Bob Dylan. “They’re doing it in a different way, but they’re doing the same exact thing: they’re using their voice to tell a story.”

"Born and raised in Chicago, Nathan Graham meshes South Side Blues with Nashville Americana, beginning his career backing blues singers at famous haunts like Buddy Guy’s Legends and Kingston Mines. He spent a decade as a guitar-for-hire before picking up a mic to tell his own stories on the stage."

"Soulful and steady, Graham’s music offers a raw introspective of the human condition that’s both painful and comforting. His guitar conveys heartbreak, lyrics tell stories of regret, but his rich vocal delivery offers the remedy."

"Having brought his songs on international tours with both major label and indie acts, Graham is challenging the notion of what it means to be a singer-songwriter. He's driving inclusivity within the genre, and he hopes to evoke a sense of understanding in the process."

“I’m writing about universal experiences,” he says. “I’m writing music to connect my story to yours, show you all that we have in common, and maybe help both of us feel less alone.”

NINA LYNN - A Taste Of The Wild

"Seemingly out of nowhere, Dutch singer-songwriter Nina Lynn surprised Woerden two years back with her debut album Hummingbird. That was no fluke, as the new A Taste Of The Wild proves, showing remarkable growth on all fronts and placing NinaLynn in the premier league of patriotic Americana."

Nina Lynn - A Taste Of The Wild - Reviews

The singer/songwriter community added a major talent with the arrival of "A Taste Of The Wild." The both the songs and production belong in the era of songwriters such as Wendy Waldman, Nicolette Larson, Carla Bonoff and so many others.

Don't let the limited sound from YouTube put you off. This album simply sounds wonderful.

Two recommendations for internet only artists.

Mark Allen is a Guitar Busker from Cardiff in the UK who has caught the attention of a filmmaker. The result is five plus years of short films of Mark playing on the street. I was one of many who immediately wanted to purchase Mark's recordings. Alas - after corresponding with him I can now say that there are none which are for sale. Maybe that will change but for now these videos are worth spending time with for anyone who enjoys guitar solos.

Bill Crews is based in South Carolina. There is mention of his recording two albums which were received well in Europe. I haven't been able to find them for purchase anywhere in the Internet. This video is from a new album also at this time not available for sale.

Hoping to generate conversation without taking up more forum space I'm starting a folder for the music I'm listening to. Not really a review area but rather a heads up - have a listen - make up your own mind and maybe leave me a comment or two.
